Luminous paints, preparation of bismuth saltsBismuth nitrate pentahydrate is an oxidant for a variety of 4-substituted Hantzsch 1,4-dihydropyridines. It also serves as a reagent for selective oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides. Further, it is involved in the preparation of Dragendorff reagent and used as a TLC stain. It is also used to prepare other bismuth compounds.
